A passion for learning.

When I was just a child, I remember my parents always trying to learn more. And then to teach others around them what they knew. One such thing was photography. I remember getting up SUPER early to drive an hour to take photos of a sunrise launch at a hot air balloon festival. I remember standing on a hilltop in the pitch black (extremely important for night shots) to shoot fireworks being fired off at a nearby mall. For my parents, it was not only about learning how to do something new, but also about taking the time to do it right. This has stuck with me.

Fast forward a number of years when I decided to revisit this photography passion that was off and on throughout my childhood and even throughout my college years (I studied Accounting, then Finance). I’m taking a Black & White Film Course at a local college. We have various projects. We develop our own film. We make our own prints in the dark room.

Our final project was to shoot anything we chose, pick a single image that we felt represented the best of our work, make a print and then cut our own matte.

I spent days in the dark room perfecting this one image. With a day or so left until it’s due date, I went to turn my project in as the last person to do so. My instructor thanked me for my project and told me she’d already given me an A. She explained to me that she’d watched me work all semester long and KNEW ahead of time that I’d meticulously make sure everything about my piece was perfect.

What my parents had instilled in me was this desire to make sure what I did was done right. Was my project piece perfect? Nope. With everything I shoot, I constantly look for how it can be better from shot to shot & for the next session I have. It’s this self evaluation that’s driven by a desire to learn more & to do something right the first time (as much as humanly possible).

Enjoying every moment!

Most people do NOT have their photograph taken on a regular basis. Sure, there are plenty of Instagram models out there, but for the most part having one’s photograph taken is not something that people are comfortable with. And we get that.

This is why we do our best to make you feel right at home with us during a shoot & what better way to do that than to become fast family! That may mean joking around or talking about how your week has been or how was your last vacation. Anything to help you forget the camera is even there because no matter WHAT we’re capturing, the goal is always to capture the TRUE YOU and that won’t happen if you’re not relaxed with us.

Who are we?

My name is Jeremy Mikell & am the primary shooter & owner of Pixel8 Images. We are committed to learning, but more importantly than that, we’re interested in forming relationships with our clients. You see, we are firm believers in community & when we all learn to help one another in our own ways, we all can live a better life and we can all find success and happiness.

To us, that is taking care of photography in all walks of your life. That can be of your family, you and your spouse just starting out or even at your place of business. You see, most photographers focus on one area of your life. They may be a maternity photographer or a wedding photographer or a real estate photographer.

We could be that way, but it wouldn’t be our style. We get to know each and every one of you and you become family. And when that moment in your life comes, whatever it may be, we want you to be able to come to us for whatever your photographic needs may be. We likely have shot it before & if we haven’t, I can assure you, we will LEARN!
